5 Skills Employees must have to Thrive in the Post Pandemic World

Apart from a lot of master chefs, artists, singers and dancers; the world will witness a much evolved versions of human beings in the post pandemic world as the world turns the tide of this global pandemic. This can be assured because if you look at the trends like “the Earth is under maintenance”, “mother Earth is healing” and the recent social media trend of “The Great Realisation- a poem from Tom Foolery”, it can be safely said we humans are evolving and our new normal will have a much humbler and aware human beings.

But not only are our mindsets changing towards our home and its climate, the world is also witnessing a lot of change in the buying behaviour and purchase patterns of the customers around the world. For instance, even after the markets and streets are opened for the citizens of Wuhan and Germany, people are still paranoid and they are bulk buying to stay and work from home.

Even though the transportation and local shops have resumed their operations, people choose to shop online and come out only to buy essentials. The organisations have also adapted to the new normal of video conferencing and work from home and many are planning to extend certain practices post pandemic.

Such behaviour suggests that the workplaces will never be the same post pandemic and employees will have to develop their skill set to settle in this “new normal” of the corporate world. To help you prepare for the future, below are few job skills that will become essential for you to succeed in a post-Coronavirus world.

1. Change Susceptibility:

Since we all know the workplaces will never be the same and that most of the businesses will evolve in the post pandemic world, the first skill that employees must possess is to get accustomed to change. Not just the immediate future but business will keep evolving in the long term and it is essential that employees learn to adapt to the changes.

2. Technical Proficiency:

Adaptation of Digital Transformation and Enterprise Mobility approaches will surge amongst companies in the next 5 years! Thus, being tech savvy and knowledge of workplace technologies will no longer be the “added advantage” but a “must have” for those who wish to grow in the corporate world.

3. Critical Thinking:

Apart from digital transformation, Data Analytics and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) will also become a growth hack for organisations because of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Also, World Economic Forum surveyed that 35% of skills that are essential today, might no longer be needed in next 5 years (Source). This states that organisations will require employees with better decision making skills and those who are critical thinkers.

4. Developing Digital Nomad Skills:

Digital Nomad is an individual who works remotely from home, foreign countries, coffee shops, public libraries, co-working spaces, or recreational vehicles. Since organisations will be inclined towards work from home culture and remote working, it is essential that employees are comfortable with these trends and have the necessary digital nomad skills to stay productive.

5. Learning the skill of self-motivation:

Since the jobs will become remote and employees will have to adapt to the digital work culture, there will be less human supervision and there will be lesser motivational sessions. In such times, it is essential that employees learn the art of self-motivation and prepare themselves for the challenges that lie ahead in their path.

While the worst of the Coronavirus has passed and the world has taken the path of recovery, employees must prepare themselves to work and grow in the post pandemic world and start taking necessary actions to develop the above mentioned skills while they still can. Comment what you think will be the new normal in the workplaces and other skills that employees will have to learn to survive and thrive in the post pandemic world.
